Androgyny is a word that you all probably hear a lot these days. Androgynous fashion is a style that aims to avoids gender stereotypes. In other words, we can style ourselves to look like neither a typical man nor a woman. I personally love this styling, therefore having masculine pieces in my wardrobe is important.
With that in mind, this past Sunday I decided to wear an androgynous look inspired by the dapper style commonly worn by men. Dapper style does not always have to be extravagant and super polished. You can also achieve this look with a toned down formality by adding casual accessories. For example, for this look, I could have wore a pair of loafers, a button-down shirt and a necktie or bowtie. It sounds like a perfect look for a weekday or a nice event. My occasion was casual. In fact, we headed to brunch, shopping and a visit to the bookstore. I felt that toning down my plaid suit was the right thing to do. As you can see, instead of loafers, I wore comfy sneaks. I replaced the button-down shirt for a cashmere turtleneck and the tie for a shiny neck chain.
For this look, I chose to wear only neutral colors and simply because I was in the mood for a fun and yet understated androgynous style. And talking about understated, the flesh-colored kicks I'm wearing with this look are the most comfortable Nike shoes I've ever worn. These sneaks are simple and classic and maybe that's why they're extremely comfy. Sometimes, complicated styles, in general, can be so hard to wear and tolerate. The suit I'm wearing is also very comfy due to the oversized style. Now, the wind that was blowing that morning was the only uncomfortable part of the day. Oh my goodness, I felt like I was walking in downtown Chicago. Super windy days are the worst for photo-shoots in general, but we managed to get a few photos without showing my struggle with the wind.
