For cold weather days, it makes sense to wear pants in order to keep our lower extremities toasty. That being said, sometimes I feel like you can be as warm if you wear a long skirt with some sort of leggings under it. I love pants, but regardless of the weather, skirts and dresses are the best candidates for me when I want to feel extra feminine.
Last week my husband and I went to Raleigh, NC to run a few errands and also to enjoy a night in the city. The weather was a tad chilly so I figured a fun layering would come in handy. Yes, I chose to layer with a floral maxi skirt over warm leggings that, due to the length of the skirt, no one could see. I wanted to play a bit with proportions, so I wore my French workwear jacket which has a boxy shape that looked great with my flared skirt and over my fitted turtleneck. Topping off this look with a midi coat that was longer than my jacket but shorter than my skirt seemed to be a clever layering technique. As you can see, my outfit looked fun from whichever angle you view it.
I have to mention that this is not the only boxy jacket that I own, but the color of this one played very well with the blue flowers on the skirt. I totally loved this vibrant pairing, however, I did not want to add bright colors to it. I believe that choosing neutral-hued supporting pieces was the move that made these two colorful garments to stand out even more. The neutral colors actually worked as a great frame and background.
I completely enjoyed wearing this look while touring the city. While on our way to a local coffee shop, we found this adorable house that reminded us of our honeymoon in Puerto Rico. The colors and decor of the house were perfect as background for a photo-shoot. We took advantage of the cute area in that neighboorhood and did this spontaneous photo-shoot of my outfit, so I hope you like it.
