When mixing prints, I normally like to follow one of the main rules such as pairing patterns with at least having one color in common. Today, I decided to break that rule and do a clashing of patterns. I've always considered and used stripes and animal prints patterns as neutrals, so in this opportunity, I combined the two of them; but as you can see, they don't share the same colors. The combo doesn't look so crazy because both garments have patterns with colors that are easy on the eyes.
SHOP THE LOOK:
I chose my accessories carefully, making sure they can support the main pieces. For example, I added a third print by showcasing a bandana (it was too hot for wearing it around my neck) that shares the same colors with the shorts, and I also carried a bag with a color that matches perfectly with the blouse. The shoes and hat were also carefully selected to make harmony with the rest of the ensemble.
WHAT I WORE:
Blouse: Ellen Tracy. Similar/Shorts: Antropologie. Similar/Sandals: LK Bennett. Similar/Hat: Hats in the Belfry. Similar/Sunglasses: Givenchy. Similar/Hoop earrings: Michael Kors/Bag: Kate Spade. Similar.
Once in a while, it's ok to break the old rules and make new ones. Rummage through your wardrobe and find the perfect clashing pieces to make your own personal statement.
