Well, these are the costumes that my boyfriend and I decided to wear this year. We both felt that this was a great idea considering our looks since I am Mayan descended, and besides, we both love American history. I was so lucky to find a vintage (1970's) leather handmade dress and vintage Minnetonkas from the same era. Everything was handmade or vintage in my outfit. Pictures were taken by my older son, whom I think did a great job. Just for reference, last year I dressed up like Charlie Chaplin and he as Elvis Presley. We also dressed for another party as The bandida and The Sheriff.
I hope you guys have a great weekend and enjoy the Halloween celebrations and like this post in Bloglovin if you enjoyed this post. We're heading off for some good fun in downtown, check for party pictures in our Instagram if you like.

This is cultural appropriation and not ok. Please rethink your choices next time.
ReplyDeleteI find nothing disrespectful in your costume, but am instead reminded of those who were here first.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lorna for your comment! It was actually so interesting to be able to have American history conversations with the people at The Millennium Center. We were impressed about how many people knew by heart this particular story of General Custer and Sitting Bull. Everyone loved it and we even won a first place :-)
DeletePlease read up on this and see why this is not ok. It is similar to those who have been in the news wearing blackface for Halloween. Appropriating parts of someone else's culture for fun and prizes is wrong. http://opineseason.com/2013/10/14/on-reframing-the-debate-around-racist-halloween-costumes/
DeleteThanks for the link...I found the comments of that post the most interesting part :-) thanks for visiting my blog and your comment is always appreciated.
DeleteI found your website through Photobucket tweet and I'm speechless about these costumes. They are simply AMAZING. The details on the leather kaftan are incredible and Custer's boots are in my wish list...
